HPW were appointed by the owners of Woodlands Lodge Hotel in the New Forest to design an 8 bedroom extension, replacing existing dilapidated outbuildings with an ultra low energy building which respects and enhances the charateristics of the site.

The new extension at Woodlands Lodge will be the first hotel building in the United Kingdom to achieve certified Passivhaus standard of environmental building design.

The first hotel building in the UK to achieve Passivhaus standard....

The Passivhaus standard of design adopts a fabric first approach with super-insulated walls and roofs, and airtight construction to maximise energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

The new HPW designed bedroom extension will be a timber frame structure, pre-fabricated off site. The simple palette of natural cladding materials has been carefully selected to provide a contemporary barn appearance which is sympathetic to the rural, agricultural character of the New Forest location.

HPW's ethos of low energy, environmentally conscious design is embodied in this exciting project.
