For nearly four decades, HPW has been guided by a simple belief: good design improves lives. Over the years, the practice has delivered meaningful work across sectors, nurtured exceptional talent, and built lasting relationships founded on trust, quality, and thoughtful architecture and design.

Whilst Alan Powell has now retired, he remains closely connected to HPW and leadership passes on to the next generation with pride and confidence.

"As I reflect on nearly forty years at HPW, I feel immense pride in what we have created together. HPW has always been more than a practice, it is a community of people who care deeply about their work and the places they help shape.” - Alan Powell

HPW now continues under the leadership of Alex Urquhart, supported by Emma, Jacob, Sophie, Huw - a team committed to carrying the practice forward while staying true to the values that have defined it from the beginning.

Over the past year, Jake and Charlie from Headliner Group have worked closely alongside HPW to support its next stage of growth. Through that collaboration came a clear alignment in values, culture, and ambition.

Their investment in the practice strengthens HPW’s long term future while preserving the ethos and identity that clients and collaborators know and trust. This evolution creates stability, opportunity, and the foundation for continued excellence.

What remains unchanged is HPW’s commitment to exceptional design, quality of service, and professional integrity.

With strong leadership, fresh investment, and a clear vision for the future, HPW is well positioned to build on its legacy of thoughtful architecture and design - creating places that meaningfully enhance everyday life.

This is the next chapter of HPW.

Grounded in experience. Strengthened by partnership. Focused on what comes next.
