Looking back at Rushden Lakes

Eight years in the making and stretching over a kilometre in length, Rushden Lakes sits beside an SSSI and RAMSAR site in the Nene Valley. More than just a retail park, it offers a genuine connection with nature.

Designed in close collaboration with Northamptonshire Wildlife Trust, the site features a large lakefront boardwalk with a variety of restaurants, a Boathouse providing accessible water-based facilities for community use, and the Nene Wetlands Visitor Centre, managed by the Wildlife Trust.

Being adjacent to a SSSI nature reserve, working closely with the Wildlife Trust was pivotal. The architecture is carefully integrated into the natural landscape, providing access to the wetland environment while creating spaces where wildlife and visitors can interact harmoniously.
