HPW Architecture’s Story so far…

At HPW, we’ve always believed that architecture goes far beyond design. It’s about influencing environments, shaping behaviours, and delivering exceptional experiences that last.

Our story began on the 13th of January 1986, in our founder Alan’s garage. It’s where the seeds of our "collaborative, personal approach" were first sown, an approach that still sees our team sitting in your office or lounge with a cup of tea to find out how you’re really feeling about your project.

As we reflect on our 40th anniversary, we’re looking back at the milestones that defined us:

1986 - Sustainability from the Start: Our first project, the Southampton Geothermal building, was a pioneer in district heating. 40 years later, it still serves the city, marking the start of our lifelong pursuit of social and environmental benefit.

2000s - The Experience Revolution: From the international success of Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park to the lifestyle defining Wilson’s in Canada, we proved that leisure and retail work best when they create community.

2017 - Defining Leisure Retail: The £55m Rushden Lakes project, featured on BBC’s Countryfile, captured our essence: a premier destination that balances major retail with the beauty of the Nene Wetlands.

Full Circle at Eagle Labs: After designing Barclays Eagle Labs in Southampton (and winning the Workplace Environment Award), we moved our own HQ there. We now directly benefit from the collaborative community we set out to create.

The HPW Philosophy remains unchanged:

  • Our clients sit at the heart of what we do.

  • Our buildings deliver value beyond their purpose.

  • Our design makes life easier for the people who use them.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the HPW journey. We’re excited to see where the future takes us.
